Applying the enhanced Water Poverty Index (eWPI) to analyze water scarcity and income poverty relation in Beheshtabad Basin, Iran

Abstract The close relationship between water and poverty has been proven in several types of research. Water Poverty Index is an interdisciplinary approach for quantifying the socioeconomic aspects scarcity. enhanced (eWPI) aggregated five components: Resources, Access, Capacity, Use, Environment a Pressure-State-Response framework. In this research, eWPI computed on two scales: four community centers Beheshtabad Basin. Because index weightless, undoubtedly importance each parameter different, preference different variables included calculation. parameters based opinion experts, reason, Analytical Hierarchy Process (AHP) Network (ANP) are used weighting components According to results, Use ( U ) Capacity C have lowest score among main criteria. average value weightless watershed 0.605 Kiar Farsan counties gained less than average. results show priority criteria as follows: R , A E AHP ANP. weights obtained through ANP more homogeneous there difference criteria, while AHP, Resources criterion relatively large weight compared other factors. AHP-weighted ANP-weighted indices 0.5944 0.626, respectively.
